NEW BOOK BY LOCAL AUTHOR SPREADS MESSAGE OF HOPE TO CHILDREN
OCEAN CITY, N.J. — While on extended bed rest with her second set of twins, Kelley Osborne Faust of Ocean City had plenty of time to think. It was a trying time. But a strong determination to meet her challenges and support of family and friends pulled her through.
“I realized that facing these challenges, we can either feel sorry for ourselves or deal with the accompanying pain,” she said. “Fortunately I learned from the challenges and moved on. I found that sharing my experiences with others made me realize that I was not alone. It made the load lighter and easier to handle.”
Kelley was so inspired that in 2007, while a resident of Ocean City, she founded Sunshine Hope, an organization designed to bring a positive message to school children and people of all ages. In short, Kelley creates ways for people to find support and find friendship, to seek refuge from stress and feel better about their lives and the world around them.
Children have been one of her special concerns. She learned while conducting programs in schools throughout the Delaware Valley that many youngsters were in need of basic, positive reinforcement in self esteem and freedom from apprehension and day to day problems.
“We talk about tough times and the kids are very forthcoming about the challenges they have experienced,” says Kelley. “ We let them know they are not alone and can find power within themselves and support within their community.”
Kelley has developed The Possibility Promise that asks kids to sign their name to a document that includes power statements like: “I believe I am special and have the power to make my dreams come true.” “I will work hard and be my own best friend. I will make the world a better place and will live a better life as a result.”
“We ask the children to print the document, sign it, date it, attach a photo and hang it in their room or a place they go to recharge. We want them to see that piece of paper after they have had a tough day to inspire them to keep going forward, “says Kelley. The Possibility Promise can be found at www.sunshinehope.com.
The latest tool in Sunshine Hope’s arsenal to assist youngsters is THE SUPERPOWER OF ME!, a full color, powerfully illustrated book that drives home a message of Hope throughout its pages. It features a smiling, illustrated Sunshine Hope cartoon figure that bursts through the book overcoming the fear of dark clouds and raging storms.
In the end calm washes over the rejuvenated character bolstered by light and Hope! Hope! Hope! And Sunshine Hope declares: “Fill your heart with Hope and Light, Tough times pass just hold on tight, Live and love and laugh each day, I AM STRONG, I’LL BE OKAY!”
The book is written by Faust. You can feel her dedication to the cause and promise of HOPE in every page. The illustrations by professional artist Jamie Murray are clear, powerful and impossible to ignore.
