By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest. Confucius

I am honored, humbled and grateful to have had the opportunity today to speak with a wise, sound, good and holy man. In the purest way, he refocused me and inspired me on that which matters most. Funny how one phone call can get to the heart of all that matters. Without going into too much detail, I want him to know that I will continue my quest for wisdom of self. I’ll share what I can with those I can. I’ll continue to work hard to shine light and hope and possibility and support. I’ll pray for him in his “behind the scenes” work. So much to learn – but then again – it’s all very basic.

If we work together and show kindness to each other and see the best in people – we can move forward in our families, communities, workplaces, country and world. By staying focused on the highest ideals – the core meaning of life – and practicing the art of communication in the healthiest way, problems can get solved. I’ll remember to ask for help from above, seek strength and wisdom. Thank you my special friend – for all you do. I recognize the importance of your work and I will work hard to follow your example.

I am honestly so grateful.

We are so grateful to The City of Ocean City, NJ, specifically Mark Soifer, Michele Gillian, The Huff Girls and Our Little “HOPE-etts” for their kindness in making this experience amazing! We enjoyed preparing Sunshine Hope (our character) for his first official parade ride in a convertible. We enjoyed meeting amazing luminaries in the world of Positive Psychology and we were floored with the honor of receiving The Doo Dah Appreciation Award in recognition of our Service to Humanity. WHAT! Crazy!! Humbled again by that little town by the sea. Ocean City, NJ – it’s no wonder that you are the “Least angry town in America”.

Grateful to have spent the last two days surrounded by healers. Part one was an always inspirational visit to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children. There is nothing like seeing a smile on the face of a child who is obviously dealing with a medical challenge to remind one of how precious each person is. What is even greater is talking with the Doctors, Nurses and Case Managers who are helping to heal these “babies” with love and medicine. Part two was an (again) always inspirational visit to another Ronald McDonald House. I am grateful for the opportunity to connect with an amazing team who helps care for so many families of children who are hospitalized. Their goodness and warmth welcomes all. As often happens when I enter a Ronald McDonald House, I feel a Spiritual Presence that immediately centers me. It is hard to describe but I get a feeling and I know I am near God – I swear (to God – no pun intended) that I feel that in every Ronald McDonald House I enter. I KNOW that one of my amazing friends is a main reason – (A Walking Saint on Earth/Altar Boy)…. you know who you are!

Part three, last night, I had the wonderful opportunity to speak with some of the Moms, Dads and caregivers of some amazing children at Gilda’s Club. For those who don’t know, Gilda’s Club is an amazing resource for those affected by cancer. It was started by Gilda and Gene Radner to offer a place where people could “come as they are” and have a supportive place to hang out, laugh, recharge and heal. One part of Gilda’s Club is called Noogieland and this is the area where children who are affected by cancer gather to connect and heal. There are so many people going through big challenges. This group that I spoke with last night has to be “strong” – they are supporting their children’s physical and emotional healing. It’s hard to be strong – to look strong – to stay strong and to strengthen others all the time. And this group is “on” – they are the strong ones – they are amazing. I work hard to inspire people in my presentations, but as I said before, most of the time, I am the one who comes away inspired.

My take-a-ways from my two days of being surrounded by healers:

1) Be joyous and excited for life. Go for it! No Fear! Life is precious. Treat each interaction with another person as an opportunity to be kind and connected. I will never forget the visual of a certain little person in the wheelchair leaving St. Christopher’s Hospital with the happiest and biggest greeting to me. She had every reason to be down but she wasn’t. She was joyous and excited for life. I will remember her the next time I hesitate in doing something.

2) Smile. I have found smiling to be one of the quickest ways to feel better and/or make friends. Smiling provides not only the mental energy to keep moving forward but also provides the opportunity to make life more fun as you show that you are open to embracing new experiences.

3) Heal. We all go down at certain times – gift yourself the time, space, energy and help to heal. I was exposed to 3 places that people only go when they need to heal – a hospital, a Ronald McDonald House and a cancer support group. Guess what I found there? I found healing, happiness, humor and hope. If you are depleted in any way in your life – make your own healing a priority.
